Fotografi berasal dari bahasa Yunani yaitu Photos yang berarti cahaya dan Grafo yang artinya melukis. Jadi secara umum fotografi adalah proses atau metode untuk menghasilkan gambar atau dari suatu objek dengan merekam pantulan cahaya yang mengenai objek tersebut pada media yang peka cahaya. Sehingga cahaya begitu penting terlebih ketika menggunakan kamera handphone.

Dalam fotografi menggunakan handphone yang hanya menggunakan Natural Light, yakni cahaya yang disediakan alam, waktu yang paling bagus digunakan memotret yakni cahaya pada pukul 7 sampai pukul 10 pagi dan pukul 2 sampai pukul 5 sore. Disarankan hanya memotret di jam-jam tersebut dan di tempat yang terjangkau cahaya. Misal di luar ruangan sepert teras, atau di dalam ruangan yang tetap mendapatkan cahaya yang bagus dari luar. Jangan menggunakan lampu ruangan karena akan membuat resolusi gambar jadi berkurang sehingga tidak jernih dan akan menghasilkan bayangan yang mengganggu.
